Hello and
Thank You
For
visiting my website and for your interest in my dogs and kennel.
At
OakTree, my breeding goal is to raise a Westie of correct temperament and conformation
with emphasis on Westie personality. I want each of my Westies to become valued members of
your families. I consider it a privilege to rear puppies that bring joy into the lives of
others. I always feel responsible for the welfare of my puppies.
Puppies
are born with ears and tails down with both coming up at about 10 weeks. By the time my
Westies are ready for their new homes at 10-12 weeks or more of age, they have been
checked by my veterinarian several times. At 10 weeks they receive a final vet checkup
before they are ready to join you in their new homes.
I
have a number of requirements of potential puppy owners. You will be asked to fill out a
questionnaire telling me a little about you and your lifestyle. You will need to sign my
sales agreement detailing a minimum standard of care for your new puppy. You will be given
written feeding instructions and a sample of food to take with you on your trip home. Your
puppy packet will also include resources for future care and training of your Westie. As I
have had many years of experience in raising dogs, I hope my advice will give you a good
start on this most rewarding relationship.
If
practical, an initial visit at my kennel is usually very helpful. You can have some
one-on-one with my Westies (and they can look you over, too!). I'm happy to answer any
questions you might have and recommend some excellent reading on the breed.
Although
viewing of young puppies through glass may be arranged, visitation is limited to six weeks
of age and older to allow for the development of immunity with first vaccinations.
Reserving a
Puppy Application Fee Required
If
you have decided to adopt one of my Westies, I require an application fee and my
completed questionnaire to be submitted to OakTree. The
questionnaire tells me what you are looking for in your Westie. If you change your mind
after I have accepted your questionnaire, your application fee is not refundable. Should
your answers to my questionnaire indicate a Westie is not the right breed for you, I will
contact you and return your questionnaire and application fee with an explanation of why a
Westie is not your best choice often suggesting another more suitable breed. The
application fee does apply to the price of your puppy.
When
I commit to you as an appropriate OakTree Westie owner, puppies are placed in the order
that questionnaires are received. I accept reservations on planned breedings at any time. If a puppy of the correct gender cannot be obtained
from the planned breeding, I will offer you the first available position on the list for
the next planned litter.
