OakTree WESTIES

Home Up

Your Westie puppy's feet and toenails require regular maintenance.

It is a good idea to handle your Westie's feet frequently when he is young so that he will always be comfortable with this routine care.  Also handling your puppy's feet and being familiar with their condition will alert you to any problems with this sensitive area.

The hair between your Westie's pads and around them should be trimmed to keep his feet clean and dry. Long hair or mats between the pads is an invitation to irritation and can cause discomfort.

Small blunt scissors are my favorite tool for this activity. I purchased mine at Petco years ago and wouldn't be without them. They are also handy for a quick trim of ear hair. A small clipper may also be used but care should be taken not to cut the tender skin between the pads.
